Tips for a Fun and Safe Halloween

With the Halloween season now upon us, here are some quick tips to help ensure that your family’s night of fun is safe and enjoyable:

  1. Make sure you know your way around the neighborhood you are trick-or-treating in. Setting a route prior to enjoying the holiday is a great plan.
  2. Trick-or-Treat with a group of friends or family.
  3. Have a conversation with your child about safety around strangers or adults they do not know.
  4. Discuss a plan with your child in case you get separated from them.
  5. Consider wearing something reflective so that vehicles can easily see you. Glow sticks are a great way to be seen and not impact a costume.
  6. Check all candy and treats received by your child prior to consumption.
  7. If your child is trick-or-treating with friends, set a time for them to return.

Recently, you may have seen some stories in the news about an increase in the distribution and use of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. This trend is impacting not just our region here in Colorado, but also many other locations throughout the United States.

Our partners at the Loveland Police Department offer up the following advice on what to do if you or your child come across material that is suspicious to you:

  • Don’t handle the suspected substance, as this may cause a negative reaction and require medical treatment.
  • Please call your local non-emergency police number if you believe you are in possession of suspected drugs.
