Thompson School District announced today that Dr. Carmen Polka has been named Executive Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Schools. She will fill the position that was previously held by Sara Rasmussen, who was recently appointed as the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services.
Since 2017, Dr. Polka has served as the principal of Centennial Elementary School in Loveland. Dr. Polka has dedicated her career in education to serving the Thompson School District and community. Over the years, Dr. Polka’s teaching experience has included kindergarten, special education and gifted education. Dr. Polka has also had additional leadership roles as a district elementary literacy professional coach and as a Teacher on Special Assignment focusing on Critical Thinking for the Early Childhood through 12th grade system.

Dr. Polka earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with an emphasis in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. She also earned a Master’s degree in Special Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, all at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Polka is regarded as a Scholar and teacher of critical thinking in the critical thinking community.
