Thompson School District announced today that Superintendent Dr. Marc Schaffer will depart the position on June 30, 2025. Dr. Schaffer has accepted a superintendent position with Community High School District 128, serving the communities of Libertyville and Vernon Hills in suburban Chicago, Illinois. His position there will begin on July 1.
Dr. Schaffer joined Thompson School District on July 1, 2018. In his time as Superintendent, he has led the district to several academic achievements, including an increase in the district’s graduation rate from 80% to 90% over the course of his seven-year tenure.
“Serving as the Thompson School District Superintendent has been one of the greatest treasures of my life,” Dr. Schaffer said. “It has been an incredible privilege to serve our nearly 15,000 students as well as work alongside our outstanding team of educators, administrators, Board of Education members, and school district supporters within the community. Over the last seven years, this district has achieved remarkable milestones and accomplishments—and I could not be prouder.”
The Board of Education will be contracting with a personnel search firm that will assist the Board in recruiting and hiring TSD’s next superintendent. Board members will explore and discuss potential firms at a special meeting this Wednesday afternoon (February 26) at 5:00 pm at the district administration office, located at 800 S. Taft Avenue in Loveland. Additional information about the search process will be announced soon.
“As I transition out of this role, I am committed to working with the Board of Education over the coming weeks and months to ensure a smooth and effective transition to new leadership,” Dr. Schaffer said. “I will fully support the process of welcoming the next superintendent and am dedicated to ensuring the continuity of our district’s goals and vision.”
