In its regular meeting this evening, the Thompson School District Board of Education formally approved a contract with Dr. Bret Heller to serve as Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1.
On April 17, the Board of Education announced that it had selected three candidates to interview for the superintendent position, which will be vacated by Dr. Marc Schaffer on June 30. District visits and interviews of the candidates were conducted from April 29 to May 1.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Thompson School District community as the next Superintendent,” Dr. Heller said. “During the interview process, I was deeply impressed by the dedication of the staff, the engagement of the students, and the strong support from families and the wider community. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board of Education, district team, educators, and community members to build on the district’s successes and ensure every student thrives.”
Dr. Heller is currently serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the School Town of Munster in Indiana. Prior to that role, he held leadership positions in the West Ada School District in Idaho, including Assistant Superintendent and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Heller’s career in education also includes service as a high school principal and middle school principal in Idaho. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Northwest Nazarene University, along with advanced degrees in Educational Leadership.
