To conserve water and promote native landscaping, the Thompson School District replaced around 10,000 square feet of high-water Kentucky Bluegrass with low-water landscaping in front of Namaqua Elementary School. Designated walking paths and drop-off zones, an ADA-accessible picnic area, and a variety of native plants now welcome students and the community on the west side of the school’s entrance.
Korby Landscaping provided the essential elements of this project, including site preparation, compacted crusher-fines pathways, irrigation system adjustments, and all the plants. The project was funded through a combination of grants from Northern Water and the Colorado Water Conservation Board, as well as school and district funds. Detailed Landscape developed the design.
This space will continue to grow, providing year-round color and biodiversity for pollinators.
