The State of Colorado’s Department of Education has presented five academic achievement awards to Thompson School District schools. The awards were earned as a result of student assessments that were completed this past spring. Administered each school year, the State of Colorado’s assessment program is a standards-based process designed to measure student performance at schools throughout the state.
Awards presented to district schools include:
John Irwin Schools of Excellence Awards
Named after former Colorado State Representative John J. Irwin, these awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. These schools received an “Exceeds Expectations” rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the state’s School Performance Framework, reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards
The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the School Performance Framework, these schools “exceed” expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and “meet or exceed” expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. Thompson School District’s academic success extended beyond state assessment performance; once again, the district experienced an increase in its high school graduation rate, with a 2022 measurement of 87.6% – an increase of 2.8% from 2021. Thompson’s four-year graduation rate has increased each of the past five years.
